Tight Clay Soils

Tight Clay Soils

Tight clay soils are harmful to crops. Roots are not able to absorb nutrients well with tight clay soils. The water infiltration rate is also low for tight clay soils. Soil improvement is needed for these types of soils, and gypsum is the perfect amendment to resolve tight clay soils. GYPSOIL resolves tight clay soils, and keeps them loose so that water and nutrients can be more easily absorbed.

GYPSOIL helps improve soil structure by increasing soil particle aggregation. Tight clay soils are loosened by mixing in organic amendments, or organic materials such as GYPSOIL. The amendments hold the clay particles apart, creating more space for air, which is critical to root growth. The resulting mellow, garden-like soil resists erosion, compaction, and crusting.

One of the first things GYPSOIL users experience is how much easier equipment can pull through a treated field. The soil is looser, yet soft and firm. It is sometimes possible to drive at a higher gear when working the ground. Growers will also notice that after applications of GYPSOIL, it becomes much easier to push a soil probe into the profile. The soil is softer and looser making it easier for the probe to slide into the earth.
