Founded in Indiana in 2002, GYPSOIL has quickly become a recognized market leader in supplying byproduct gypsum for agriculture. The company is expected to nearly triple annual sales in 2011 versus 2010. We now market across three regions and have partnerships with major gypsum producers, including:
"Gypsoil brings a broad base of technical knowledge on the use of gypsum for agricultural production."
- Katheryne Rehberg, ADM Product Manager, Acidulants
Agronomist Ron Chamberlain first saw the improvement in soil structure that gypsum brought to his clients’ farms several years ago. He observed that soils became softer and more friable, yet they resisted compaction, crusting and ponding. With improved drainage in gypsum-treated fields, farmers found a wider window for fieldwork. Chamberlain also saw soil biology come alive with earthworms working down deep into the soil profile. Over time, clients reported crop performance had improved because of the healthier, more productive soils.
Chamberlain and his wife, Cheryl, established the brand GYPSOIL and sought permits to sell gypsum for agricultural purposes in Indiana. Soon, they began working with several gypsum source partners to supply gypsum to area growers.
In June 2009, Chicago-based Beneficial Reuse Management (BRM) acquired GYPSOIL and Ron became Director of Gypsum Programs for BRM. He continues to serve as the chief agronomist for GYPSOIL and travels throughout the Midwest, Southeast and Mid-South to assist employees and customers who are incorporating gypsum into their management program.
In early 2011, GYPSOIL started marketing in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and several other southern states.
GYPSOIL’s parent company - Beneficial Reuse Management (BRM) - is in the business of identifying opportunities to utilize byproducts of various manufacturing processes in safe and effective ways that benefit landowners, crop growers and others that can effectively use these materials.
Through this process, BRM helps to conserve natural resources and preserve landfill space, while helping the environment. The product GYPSOIL is created as a co-product of the eco-friendly process of producing electricity. It was an ideal fit with Beneficial Reuse Management.
