On Jan. 15, a tour group visited City Water Light and Power (CWLP) plant to see where GYPSOIL® brand gypsum is produced in Springfield, IL. The group learned about the state-of-the-art scrubbing technology used to clean emissions and produce highly pure, high-quality gypsum that improves soil quality and supplies soluble calcium and sulfate sulfur to soils.
The event concluded with a luncheon and program featuring Dr. Marvin Batte, PhD, professor emeritus of agricultural economics at Ohio State University. Dr. Batte shared results of a recently completed study on the use of gypsum by producers. The study was conducted in collaboration with No-Till Farmer and was sponsored by GYPSOIL Division of Beneficial Reuse Management. This first-of-a-kind research examines when and under what circumstances producers use gypsum, rates applied, principal benefits and economic returns.
