FAQ
How much Gypsoil will I need?
It is recommended that you apply Gypsoil at a rate of one to two tons per acre every one to two years.
Does Gypsoil replace liming?
No. Lime is used to adjust your soil’s pH. Gypsoil offers a host of other benefits that enhance soil structure and improve the release of nutrients to your crop. Gypsoil does not alter soil’s pH. You can apply Gypsoil after harvest and anytime soil conditions allow.
What crops benefit most from Gypsoil?
Applying Gypsoil is beneficial for all crops because it improves your soil’s ability to provide a healthy environment for plant roots.
How do I apply Gypsoil?
Apply Gypsoil using equipment designed to broadcast spread bulk materials (such as lime, litter, etc.) that is set properly and in good repair.
Who can apply Gypsoil?
There are many qualified applicators around the Midwest. Call us for information. If you have the proper equipment, you may be able to apply Gypsoil yourself if you prefer.
Do I need any special permitting to use Gypsoil?
No. Gypsoil is in full compliance with all Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin regulations. If you live in Wisconsin and Illinois, you will be asked to provide information regarding the application rate, etc. to your field.
Do I have to incorporate Gypsoil?
No. Gypsoil is water-soluble and will move down through the soil profile depositing Calcium and Sulfur into the soil profile. USDA research shows that, within two years, water-soluble Calcium and sulfur from surface-applied gypsum are present at 36-inch depth.
Can I cut back on my fertilizer if I use Gypsoil?
Possibly. It depends upon your farming practices, soil conditions, etc. Typically, biologically active soils require less supplemental fertilizing.
Is Gypsoil a fertilizer?
No. Gypsoil is a soil amendment that loosens up hard, compacted soil and allows water and plant roots to reach farther down into the soil profile. The biological systems also release and balance soil nutrients for the crop.
How do I know if my Gypsoil is working?
Generally, you will experience softer soils within 12 months of application, depending upon your farming practices and soil condition. Call us for specifics.
Is there any research data on Gypsum?
Yes. The USDA and other organizations around the world have done extensive research on the effects of gypsum on soil structure and crop production. Check our links for more information.
Will my yields improve with Gypsoil?
Gypsoil changes soil structure giving better performance to the soil. Yield response depends upon the whole management system and what the limiting factors are. With good management, better soils consistently produce higher yields.
How much does Gypsoil cost?
Gypsoil is cost effective. Your delivered cost will depend largely on the cost of freight to deliver Gypsoil from our production site to your farm.
